DELL
More than 15 years ago, in 2003, the US multinational of the technology industry pioneered the Panama Pacifico Special Economic Area. Its headquarters in the project became a regional geographic center, since it went from being a call center to a shared services hub that serves Latin America.
Gustavo Ripoll, the Executive Director and General Manager for Latin America, said that “Panama Pacifico offers an incomparable location, infrastructure and legal benefits that help us provide the best service to our clients.”
Today, Dell operates in a building of more than 5,000 m2 and has more than 2,300 employees. It provides technical support to Dell customers in the Americas and provides internal support service to Dell business units around the world.
PEPSICO
The famous multinational is a leader in the food and beverage industry with brands such as Lay, Doritos, Quaker, Cheetos, Tostitos, Ruffles, among others. It began operations in Panama Pacifico in 2015 and has 5,900 m2.
Today, they operate the distribution center of Central America and the Caribbean in the project. In addition, they import from the United States and Mexico, cover local consumption and re-export by land and sea. It also has Shared Services for other corporate business units.
3M
3M is a case worth studying in Panama Pacifico, as it demonstrates how light high-tech manufacturing is not only viable, but also profitable in Panama, thanks to the country’s logistical capacity. It is a pioneer in producing and distributing “Made in Panama” products to markets in America, Europe and Asia.
It began operations in 2008 and operates in world-class facilities Build to Suit of 12,250 m2. It has 13 manufacturing lines of high technology, services and logistics. And by concentrating its business lines in the project, it reduced its collection and distribution centers in the region from 22 in 2012 to only 11 in 2017.
